Have you watched Eat, Pray and Love, in which the beautiful Julia Roberts plays the sweet Liz, who is at a crossroads in her life and searching for herself.
IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET - watch it, just for fun.
IF YOU'RE HERE - remember the scene when she visits Ketut the healer in Bali?
What does Ketut say?
In this short clip you can see the advice Ketut gave Liz when she came to visit him.
Focusing on the last part of the tip.
FIRST, LET'S QUICKLY RECAP WHAT IS THE LIVER'S JOB?
They are one of the most important organs in the human body and have many key functions. Their main task is to filter the blood coming from the digestive tract before it flows to the rest of the body. The liver also detoxifies chemicals and metabolises medicines. In doing so, the liver secretes bile, which is returned to the intestines. The liver can also repair itself in the event of injury or surgical excision.
They play a key role in maintaining balance in the body and ensuring that it functions properly. The liver is a very important organ for maintaining health and vitality.
WHAT DO I MEAN BY: LAUGH WITH YOUR LIVER?
When you start to go within and live from the inside out, that is when inner peace and true happiness are born. And that is exactly what the healer in Bali meant when he told Liz to laugh with her liver. When you smile with your liver, it means you are smiling from the inside.
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN NEGATIVE FEELINGS COME FROM THE ENVIRONMENT?
When negativity or unpleasant feelings come in, they pass through the liver, and if we laugh with the liver, the liver will filter out the negativity from the outside world. This means that these bad feelings will not be passed on through the body.
When we smile, anger melts away, smiles break down blockages, and then we can forgive, accept other people's thoughts, understand different perspectives on situations that every human being on this planet has. A smile triggers the production of endorphins, feel-good hormones, and they reach the belly and we feel inner peace. This also calms the mind and the result is pure happiness, manifested in a beautiful smile on the face and a twinkle in the eye.
JUST AS THE LIVER CAN BE RESTORED, SO CAN THE SMILE
Even when a smile is taken away or interrupted, it can come back and be restored, just as the liver can be if it is cut off.
HOW I DO IT
I have a very dynamic life because I like it that way and I chose it, but it is often varied and can be nerve-wracking at times. I have learnt over the years of exploration that when it is most hectic, that is when I start to stop and calm down, I know that at that moment what is meant to burst will burst and that life always has my back and at the same time teaches me invaluable lessons.
Now I also understand why, whenever I am faced with a difficult situation, I start laughing madly and making those closest to me despair.
AN EXAMPLE FROM A TRIP TO NEW YORK
Gregor and I had only known each other for half a year when we went on our first trip together to New York for New Year's Eve in the middle of the worst cold.
On the first day, we arrived at night, took the metro to the area where we were staying. It was -12 degrees, we had big suitcases in our hands and no Wi-Fi as we frantically searched for an apartment. After 30 minutes, I had a fit of laughter. Gregor was getting more nervous and I was laughing more. I still don't know how he managed it, but suddenly he found out where our flat was.
I now know why I laugh in those moments, my liver is working and filtering the stress coming from around me. This keeps me calm because I trust life.
LAUGH FROM THE GUT! 🙂
